The presentation has free flowing cords falling onto a carefully dyed creative textile that has been allowed to tumble randomly from the ceiling. Cords travel from three points randomly collecting on three points nesting on fabric.
Initially the work was inspired by T.S. Elliot’s ‘The wasteland’ , the work moved from the disconnect of the poem into my personal interpretation of random free flowing connection.
Looking at works of Mary Tuma who confronts issues of violence, death and misfortunes of Palestinian people in her work also gave influence to this installation as it is relevant to my initial research into The Wastelands. Her work ‘Homes for the disembodied’ created from chiffon and wire shows power created in textiles falling from ceiling to floor.
