The work is an interpretation of T.S. Elliot’s The Wasteland , part one, The burial of the dead.
The artillery of the First World War would, it was advocated, support a ‘war to end all wars’ … it ended after 4 years… the horrific loss of lives and devastation fell heavily on the nation’s moral.
This work is disjointed in its presentation as is the poem in its formation. The tubers, crazed lines, dropped heads, blue lines and broken earth are all representations of Elliot’s disturbed words.
The plastic that supports the images links the work to present day, 2018, in the way that the ‘wonder of plastics ‘ has been proved to be destroying our planet…once again we are causing unknown degrees of devastation.
